Every wedding is unique, but when it comes to the planning process there are a few things to think about no matter the size, budget or destination. We’ve rounded up our top tips that you might want to follow when planning your wedding day.
Think about what’s important
So, you’re engaged! Congratulations! You have just followed various wedding vendors on Instagram and started a Pinterest board, now what?! To make sure that you don’t rush into decisions that you may regret later we highly recommend sitting down with your partner. Write a list of aspects of your day that really are important to you. Creating your priorities list will help to inform your choices and the order in which you get everything booked. Next, create a mood board. This is essential to be able to show your vision and preferences to potential wedding vendors.
Let’s talk money
You may not want to, you may find it stressful, but trust us, setting out a realistic budget now will save you time, money and heartache! Take a look at your priorities list and figure out how best to make that happen and where you could save money if you need to keep in budget.
We often hear that couples don’t know where to start when creating a wedding budget. We suggest sitting down together and discussing with anyone who is contributing that figure first. Then it’s time to figure out exactly how much you can and want to spend on your wedding day. Remember it needs to fit with your personal finances and long term goals. Think about aspects of your wedding such as the number of guests. This can have a huge impact on how far your budget will go. Finally, make sure that you research the location of your wedding, vendor costs and price differences throughout the year. These are all factors that will ensure that you can stick to your budget.
The vendor team of dreams
Here we go, this is where it all starts to feel real. The first vendor that we always suggest that couples should look for is a wedding planner. Not only do they play an important role in the planning process but they will also have invaluable advice, help you to stay on budget and even be able to help you find the vendors of your dreams. Here are a few that we can personally recommend: Home Gurr’own, The Wedding Dolls and Fields and Festoons. After choosing a planner, book your venue and tent hire. Sometimes you can do this as one package because of vendor collaborations such as our collab with Greenhill Farm. Finally, now that you have a date you can meet with and book your photographer, florist, caterer etc. Happy planning!
Here are a few more of our highly recommended vendors from personal experience:
Paul Fuller, Matilda Delves, Locate to Create, Sue Davies Flowers & JoJo Blooms, Jackson and Co, The Little Wedding Warehouse and many more.
Smoothly does it
Think about creating a wedding day timeline. guest list and seating chart, you don’t want these details to be overlooked when it comes to your big day. Your vendor dream team will be able to advise you on this and you should utilise their experience as much as you possibly can. For example, we provide every couple with a floor plan following your quote for your marquee hire. This can be changed multiple times until we find one that suits you best. This helps you start to plan your guests’ seating arrangements and visualise the available space.
Plan your day to a T and you will be able to relax in the knowledge that everything will run well on the day.
Enjoy the wedding planning!
Whilst wedding planning isn’t always easy, if you utilise resources, your loved ones and trusted vendors you can genuinely enjoy the process. From choosing the flowers and decor to your outfit, taking engagement photos, the vehicles and just generally enjoying the build up to this wonderful day of your life.
